Youth Meet at Lodi Gardens

SILF organized the first youth meeting for young men and women living in Leprosy Colonies in Delhi.It was held outdoors in a garden to encourage informal and free interaction. Eighteen young people, all of whom had completed high school participated at this meeting.

The objective was to provide a forum for free and easy interaction where their concerns and aspirations could be discussed along with identifying areas in which SILF could be of future assistance.

At the meeting, two resource persons, viz, Mr B.L Joshi of Karam and Ms Namita Jain of Asian Retail Institute talked about employment opportunities and the requirements in some of the service sector jobs.

Outcome of the Training:

The major outcome was 20 youths were invited for being a part of a training course to enhance their communication and presentation skills. 5 youngsters were called for final interview and 2 were offered jobs in pharmaceutical sector.

Resource Persons:

  • Mr. B.L. Joshi: Chairman, Knowledge Awareness Research and Management (KARAM), an NGO working in Research and Survey Sector. He has also worked as a Senior Economist in the National Council for the Applied Economic Research (NCAER)
     
  • Ms. Namita Jain: President of Asian Retail Institute, New Delhi. The Institute trains students in Retail Management and Customer Service Excellence.
