SILF’s Success at Nature Bazaar! |
|
18th to 24th Nov’08
Dilli Haat
Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation, recently held an exhibition of
products made by people once affected by leprosy in the Nature Bazaar,
an annual crafts bazaar held by Dastkar.
The stall had products like woollen shawls, tweeds, handmade paper
products, bed linen and rugs, from across the country. The tweeds were
made into high end fashion garments – like jackets and capes – by
successful fashion designer Ms Ria Ali. The exceptional
quality of the products was reflected in the high turn over of good
exceeding all our expectations.
For people looking at, touching and purchasing products made by people
affected by leprosy, it was an occasion to learn the facts about leprosy
and overcome their fears and prejudices. This proved that they are
just like you and me – “Just Like Us”.
SILF, through this exhibition demonstrated that given the opportunity,
and contrary to popular perception, people once affected by leprosy are
able to produce beautiful things too.
Partners in the exhibition were Panchachuli from Almora, Divya
Bharat Samiti from Dehradun, Sarthak Manav Kushth Ashram from
Jaipur, MESH from Delhi, GLRA from Kolkata and Dhal Wala Kusth Ashram
from Rishikesh.
